Work is now underway for stage one of the Paeroa Historical Maritime Park Wharf project which will link the Park with Paeroa. Visitors should be able to cruise by riverboat into Paeroa this summer.
There will be detours in place whilst this work is undertaken, and construction could take up to 3 months. Stage two of the new development will include a multi-centre with an educational focus, conference facilities and cafe.
Last year the Maritime Park received a $730,000 Provincial Growth Fund grant and $400,000 in funding from Hauraki District Council for this first stage of the project, which includes a community jetty on the Ohinemuri River, pontoons, and a new riverboat to transport people from the Park into town.
We look forward to seeing this exciting development come to fruition. It will provide a great boost for the tourism sector with inter-regional benefits, providing jobs and business opportunities.
Thank you for your patience during this time.
