A Hauraki Rail Trail Ride For The Girls

For men and women there’s plenty of health benefits associated with cycling. In addition to reduced risk of heart disease and increased immunity, cycling improves endurance, is easy on your joints and helps promote positive thinking.

However, studies show that physically active women have a lower risk of breast cancer than inactive women.  Women who also increase their physical activity after menopause may have a lower risk of breast cancer than women who don’t.

Cycling regularly is a fun and simple way to incorporate physical exercise into your life.  Let’s face it we all go through rough patches, and cycling is a great way to keep your sanity in check, stay focused and grow stronger.

Here’s 7 reasons why seeing the world from behind handlebars can do your mind, body and soul the world of good.

It’s Good for Your Physical Health

One of the greatest things about cycling is that everyone can do it.  It’s a fantastic solo sport and one that brings people together.  Whether you’re a beginner or a bit rusty, there’s an abundance of reasons why women should consider cycling.

Biking uses nearly all the muscles in your body.  The two most obvious muscles are your heart and your thighs.  Other muscles include calves, core, shoulders, forearms, neck, back and hamstrings.  What’s not to love?

Life is busy with work and family, so there’s nothing better for long-term health than getting a good nights sleep.  Studies have shown that a good way to get that much needed rest is to get out on two wheels several times a week.

It’s Good for Your Mental Health

With so many life factors which cause stress, anxiety and depression, finding the motivation to take part in something enjoyable can be lacking.  However cycling can reduce stress and improve overall mental health, one gentle pedal at a time.

The huge enjoyment of riding a bike can help improve your state of mind when life feels like it’s all getting a little too much.  Even a short bike ride can generate all the adrenalin and endorphins needed to provide a fabulous natural high.

Quality Family Time

Cycling together promotes a positive healthy lifestyle, increases bonding and encourages children to bike into adult life.  It’s a fun activity which inspires kids to explore and adventure, leaving consoles and television behind in favour of livelier outdoor pursuits.

Look After No.1

A little bit of self-care goes a long way in building confidence and self esteem.  With cycling you’ll get into shape, feel good, reduce your carbon footprint and make friends which improves confidence in every aspect of life.

Look Younger

Yes you heard right, cycling regularly will flush out those harmful toxins that build up in the body.  Exercise can also optimise your body's collagen production which in turn reduces those unwanted fine wrinkles.

Improve Your Immunity

An outdoor ride and breathing the fresh air can help to keep you away from the Doctor.  Moderate exercise helps keep immune cells active, making them ready to fight off viruses more easily - especially during the Winter months.

Be Sociable

Cycling is a fun social activity, so hop on a bike and hit the Trail with friends.  Not only is it a great way to make new friends, it’s also a great way to strengthen the friendships you have.  So call a few friends and check out our suggested ride for the girls.
