Alert Level 3 - Register To Ride The Hauraki Rail Trail

The Hauraki Rail Trail will re-open under Alert Level 3, with limitations. In order to meet the expectations of Government during Level 3, we are setting up a confidential online register of anyone who is wanting to ride the Hauraki Rail Trail.  All Trail users are required to register each time they walk or ride the Trail.

Register To Ride The Hauraki Rail Trail

Toilets on the trail network may be closed, so stay close to home.  Exercise and recreation are important for our health and wellbeing.  Cycling on the Trail does however present a risk of transmission if we come into contact with others, use or touch common equipment or surfaces such as seating or handrails, or require emergency services or medical care.

We have set up an online register for anyone wanting to ride the Hauraki Rail Trail.  The register will allow us to contact you if there is a community outbreak reported relating to the Trail.  We are only asking for basic information, Name, Email, Phone Number and the areas you are intending to ride.  This information will be kept confidential and not be accessed for any other purposes than intended.  Please register all your bubble members who are riding/walking with you.  You need to register each time you ride.

You can register your intent to ride or walk via here.

A Safe Return to Biking

Please stay local, using trails in your neighbourhood, to avoid driving to or riding unfamiliar trails.  Ride or walk within your family bubble only.  Make sure you all wash your hands thoroughly when you get back home.  Mixing groups outside your bubble is not permitted, and adds to the risk of community transmission and potentially a return to Level 4 Lockdown - and the Trail closed once again.

Please use common sense.  Don’t ride the Trail if you have symptoms (e.g. fever, coughing, shortness of breath).  Stay home.  Save lives.

Research suggests cyclists and runners should maintain a greater separation.  When approaching others slow down so it’s easier to maintain separation, and always give way to walkers.  Be calm, be kind, be responsible and show the community you care.

Reminders to protect yourself and the Community:

If outside ride solo or in your bubble

Ride from home. Avoid driving to ride.

Don’t ride if you or your family are unwell

Ride short and local to take the pressure off emergency services

Tell someone your plans

Wave to other cyclists from a distance so as not to break your bubble

Behave as if you have COVID-19 (Jacinda’s words, not ours)

Avoid touching gates, handrails, fences, benches and picnic tables. The virus can remain

on surfaces for three days

Don’t touch your face while riding

Wash your hands and disinfect your bike when you get home

Show the community you care so we can continue to get fresh air and stay active
